3. Quick and Easy to Make
Don’t have hours to spend in the kitchen? No problem! This recipe takes just 10 minutes to prepare and requires no baking, so it’s ideal for anyone with a busy lifestyle. Just blend the ingredients in a blender or food processor. Then, chill, and you’re good to go.

Ingredients in This Chocolate High-Protein Mousse
These are the simple ingredients in this healthy dessert.
- Cottage Cheese: I make this with 2% cottage cheese.
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: For that rich, dark chocolatey flavor, I use a combination of cocoa powder and Dutched cocoa powder.
- Maple Syrup, Granulated Monk Fruit, or Honey: Sweeten to taste with natural sweeteners. If you use granulated monk fruit sweetener, the blender will pulverize it.
- Vanilla Extract: To enhance the chocolate taste.
Variations and Optional Toppings To Make Your Chocolate Protein Mousse Stand Out
This easy recipe blows me away as it. Nonetheless, there are countless ways to embellish this delicious, protein-rich mousse.
- Berries: Top with fresh raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, or cherries.
- Chia Seeds: The mousse will thicken overnight but add a teaspoon of chia seeds if you want the mousse to set.
- Chopped Nuts: Sprinkle chopped almonds, walnuts, pecans, or even hemp hearts.
- Cinnamon: A pinch of cinnamon invokes Mexican chocolate.
- Dark Chocolate Chips or Cocoa Nibs: Stir into the mousse or sprinkle on top. For a low-carb or keto-friendly option, opt for sugar-free chocolate chips.
- Finely Ground Coffee or Espresso Powder: Add a pinch to give this healthy dessert a mocha flavor.
- Flaky Salt: To enhance the flavors in this low-carb treat.
- Granola: For more crunch.
- Peanut Butter: Add 1-2 tablespoons for a delicious chocolate peanut butter mousse. Almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter also work.
- Peppermint Extract: Add a drop or two for a mint chocolate mousse variation.
- Whipped Cream and Fresh Fruit: Turn it into a mousse parfait.
Step-by-Step Photos to Make Cottage Cheese Chocolate Mousse
These are the steps to make this healthy dessert.

1. Blend the Cottage Cheese: In a high-speed blender or food processor, combine the cottage cheese, cocoa powder, sweetener, vanilla extract, and an optional pinch of salt. Blend until smooth and creamy. The texture should resemble a thick, velvety mousse.
2. Taste and Adjust: Give the mousse a quick taste test. If you prefer a sweeter mousse, feel free to add more sweetener to taste. Remember, the sweetness will mellow out slightly once chilled, so adjust accordingly.

3. Chill: Transfer the mousse to serving bowls or jars. Then, cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. For the best results, refrigerate overnight. The mousse will firm up as it chills, achieving the perfect, mousse-like texture.

Tips for the Perfect Cottage Cheese Chocolate Mousse
- Cottage Cheese Selection: For the smoothest mousse, make sure to use well-blended cottage cheese. If you prefer, you can blend it until it’s completely smooth before starting the recipe.
- Make It Vegan: For a dairy-free version, simply substitute the cottage cheese with silken tofu, and the heavy cream with coconut cream or almond milk.
Why Cottage Cheese?
You may be wondering, “Why cottage cheese?” Well, cottage cheese isn’t only high in protein but also incredibly creamy when blended. This makes it the perfect base for a mousse without needing to rely on heavy cream or sugar.
It also has fewer carbs than most traditional mousse ingredients, making it a great fit for low-carb and keto diets.

Notes

I tried this recipe today. I think it will become a regular in my easy-make rotation. It’s deliciously chocolatey, has great mousse texture, and the sweetener is customizable. I used monkfruit sugar, which I like a lot and am happy is fairly low glycemic. A good option if you are watching sugar spikes. The only thing I would do differently next time is double the recipe!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! We love it too! You might also like dark chocolate avocado mousse and blueberry tofu pudding.
I made this for my daughter who was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. She was having trouble finding a high protein snack she wanted to eat prior to bed and this did the trick. It is so good, she said it was the best thing she’d eaten since the diagnosis. It was so good, I made some for myself. I’m even going to serve it to the guests at her baby shower layered with whipped cream in parfait dishes.
Thank you so much for this recipe!

You’re welcome. I make it all the time too. The peanut butter and strawberry versions are also really delicious.
